Focus and Scope

Jurnal Studi Tafsir is dedicated to scholarly research on tafsir as a tradition and an intellectual discipline within Islam. Rather than examining the Qur’an directly, this journal positions works of tafsir as its primary objects of study, covering their development from classical, medieval, modern, to contemporary periods across Indonesia and the broader Muslim world.

The journal focuses on the historical trajectories, methodological frameworks, and intellectual dynamics of tafsir, employing approaches such as historical, philological, textual, comparative, and interdisciplinary studies. It particularly welcomes contributions in the following areas:

  • Genealogical studies on the development of tafsir in specific periods or regions
  • Analyses of sub-genres of tafsir, including encyclopedic, concise, pedagogical, and ḥāsyiyah works
  • Studies on exegetical methodologies and argumentative styles of mufassirūn
  • Research on the socio-intellectual contexts shaping the production of tafsir
  • Intertextual studies among tafsir works, including influence, synthesis, and critique
  • Studies on local tafsir traditions and their interpretive dynamics in diverse Muslim societies

Jurnal Studi Tafsir accepts original research articles, literature reviews, manuscript-based studies, and interdisciplinary works that contribute to the academic advancement of tafsir studies. All submissions undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure scholarly quality, relevance, and methodological rigor.
