About the Journal

Jurnal Studi Tafsir is a scholarly journal specifically dedicated to research and academic studies on tafsir as a tradition and an intellectual discipline within Islam. Rather than examining the Qur’an directly, this journal positions works of tafsir as its primary objects of study—tracing their development from the classical, medieval, modern, and contemporary periods, both in Indonesia and across the wider Muslim world.

This journal approaches tafsir as a field of knowledge with its own history, continuity, transformations, and internal dynamics, which can be investigated through historical, philological, textual, comparative, and interdisciplinary methods. Accordingly, the articles it publishes may include:

  • Genealogical studies on the development of tafsir within a certain period or region,

  • Analyses of sub-genres of tafsir, such as encyclopedic commentaries, concise educational commentaries, or ḥāsyiyah works,

  • Studies on exegetical methodologies and the argumentative styles of mufassirūn,

  • Research on the socio-intellectual contexts that shaped the production of tafsir,

  • Examinations of intertextual relations among tafsir works, including influence, synthesis, or critique,

  • Studies of local tafsir traditions and their interpretive dynamics in various Muslim societies.

Jurnal Studi Tafsir welcomes manuscript-based research articles, literature reviews, textual studies, and interdisciplinary research that contribute to the academic and historical development of tafsir studies. All submitted manuscripts undergo a peer-review process to ensure scholarly quality, relevance, and methodological rigor.

This journal is published regularly and made openly accessible as part of its commitment to providing a serious, critical, and in-depth scholarly platform for researchers, academics, students, and readers engaged in the advancement of tafsir studies.
